6 Types of Sweaters to Style in Fall 2022

Let’s face it: the constant need we have to restock our wardrobes every new season is partly influenced by our culture of consumerism but also partly influenced by the lack of variety in our wardrobes.

The fashion industry is fast-paced, with new trends coming and going every now and then. This affects how we decide what clothes to buy and wear, especially as we approach new seasons. But if we take a moment to add variety to our wardrobe, we’ll find that we don’t always need to buy new outfits when the new season calls for it.

I know that wearing the same clothing items can seem repetitive and boring. But there are moments when you might stick to a budget or simply make the most of what you have, and that’s when adding variety to your wardrobe will serve you best.

By variety, I specifically mean buying clothing items that you can style and wear in many ways and for different occasions. In the fall season, sweaters are one the most commonly worn clothing item. They come in different shapes and sizes but buying the exact types of sweaters that you can wear differently will help you make the most of your sweater purchases.

With that in mind, I have listed 6 types of sweaters that you can style differently during this fall season. I invite you to read through this list but as you do, consider your personal style and how you can fit the sweaters listed in a way that suits your style.

  1. Cable Knit Sweater

Cable knit sweaters usually have a chunky feel to them, but they are exceptionally good to wear on cold days because of the warmth they provide. But they can also be worn in several ways.

Your cable knit sweaters can be paired with different types of pants like culottes, wide-leg pants, skirts, dresses, and just about any type of jeans or skirts. However, when wearing a cable knit sweater over a dress or skirt, you should pair it with a belt, so it’s more fitting and complements your shape.

You can also wear your cable knit sweaters to work—simply wear them over a nice pencil skirt or pants.

2. Cropped Sweater

Cropped cardigans are a perfect fall and winter casual item to have in your wardrobe. These sweaters will look even better when paired with wide-leg pants or high-waisted jeans.

When pairing cropped cardigans with high-waisted jeans, you should consider wearing a plain tee underneath. However, the cardigan will need to be fairly big enough to make this work. You can complete this look by wearing white sneakers, especially if you’re going for a fall streetwear style.

3. Oversized Sweater

In the fall and winter seasons, you have to wear layers. Layering makes it easy to repurpose clothing that makes not necessarily fall or winter essentials. Using your oversized cardigan as an extra layer is a perfect example of how you can use layers to stay warm during the fall and winter months. So, don’t get rid of your oversized cardigans just yet. Instead, pair them with pants, jeans, or dresses and wear them over your plain or cropped tees.

4. Cashmere Sweater

Cashmere sweaters are a good but expensive fall and winter investment. They are probably the softest sweater that you can find and will definitely keep you feeling cozy and warm during the cold months.

If you can afford to splurge on a cashmere sweater, buy one that you can wear over culotte pants or pair with a dress and slim belt. You can also wear a shirt, with collars out, underneath your cashmere sweater and then wear your jacket over the sweater.

5. Knitted Vest

Knitted Vests are a recent trend that you can consider exploring this fall and winter season. It's a cozy layer that still gives you room to breathe, making it the perfect addition to any wardrobe for transitional seasons like summer to fall.

You can wear your knitted vests with a nice pair of wide-leg pants, skirts, or dresses. You can also wear them as a dress if they are oversized and paired with knee-high boots. It can also be worn over skirts or dresses, and it can be layered in multiple ways.

6. Long Cardigan

Long cardigans will keep you warm during the fall and winter months, and they are equally important for when transitioning your wardrobes. They come in different shapes and designs, which can give you a casual, chic, elegant, or formal look.

Wearing sweaters that keep you warm and fit your personal style will keep looking and feeling your best on cold, gray days. As you prepare for the fall and winter months, consider buying sweaters that will wear and style in different ways so that you can get the most out of them.

The fall season doesn’t have to be a moody one for you; wear varieties that you love and enjoy in the fall! And if you want to brainstorm clothing ideas for the upcoming, feel free to connect with me here
