Fall Season Essentials: 5 Must-Have Clothing Pieces For Your Wardrobe

Although I am a strong believer in shopping for outfits that you can wear all year round, I understand that different seasons require specific types of outfits. A lot can change in a year, from our bodies to our fashion styles, and as such, our outfit choices may evolve within that time. So, I understand why we might have to change our wardrobes every four month.

During the fall season, we tend to prioritize warm clothes that are aesthetically pleasing. And sometimes, we have to sacrifice one of those two attributes. Many of us already have fixtures in our wardrobe every time the fall season comes around, but if you’re unsure of what to have in your fall wardrobe, here’s my list of essential fall clothing pieces:

  1. Boots - It's the rainy season, and you’re bound to get wet at some point. But you can reduce the chances of getting your feet wet by wearing fall boots. Comfort should be the name of the game when choosing fall boots. Depending on how cold it is where you are, or if it snows, you may not be able to wear boots with high heels. So, don’t force it. Just wear boots that you can walk comfortably in. There are different types of fall boots to choose from, and your choice depends on your style, but some fall boots to think about include: Chelsea boots, knee-high boots, ankle boots, lug sole boots etc.

2. Sweaters - What says fall season like a nice, cozy sweater? Nowadays, sweaters come in different shapes and sizes and frankly, it’s difficult to put a pin on what the trends are at any given time. Some people wear hoodies, cardigans and crewnecks, others enjoy oversized sweaters or chunky knits. The choice is yours, of course, but be sure to wear sweaters that will keep you warm, depending on how severe your weather conditions are. I live in Canada, so I definitely fancy thicker sweaters than folks living in other parts of the world do.

3. Sneakers - It could become quite untenable to wear boots all the time during the fall season, and that’s where sneakers come in. If you’re looking for a multi-purpose foot-covering that’s comfortable and visually-appealing, sneakers are your go-to. Some people do not enjoy wearing boots, and if you’re one of such people, you should shop around for some nice sneakers that match your other fall outfits. These could be high-top or low-top, and you could pair them with a pair of socks for warmth. Also, although the white sneaker trend is here to stay, consider the fact that wearing a white clothing piece in the fall season means you have to be ready to do a lot of laundry.

4. Jackets & Outerwear - With jackets, you’ve got several options: puff coats, leather jackets, denim jackets and trench coats are some that quickly come to mind. One thing about the cold season is that you will have to layer up. And if sweaters aren’t your thing, you could consider buying more outerwears that can keep you warm. Jackets are just one kind of outerwears, but you can also invest in blazers, shawls, raincoats, overcoats, touques, etc.

5. Accessories - Speaking of touques, you should make sure your fall wardrobe has essential accessories that go along with other fall clothes. Clothing pieces like hats, gloves, tights, scarves, and tote bags are just a few examples of accessories that can elevate your style this fall season. So, even as you’re layering up and prioritizing warmth and comfort, be sure to throw in some accessories that will help you remain true to your personal style.

These are the five fall season essentials that I have in my wardrobe. But I’d love to hear about your fall wardrobe, what clothing pieces are you prioritizing this fall season?
