A Gallery of Looks Inspired by Royal Themes

A day after my first birthday, Princess Diana died. She was (and continues to be) my mom’s all-time favourite monarch. My mom talks about her a lot so growing up, I heard so much about Princess Diana, her personality, stories, and fashion. That’s where my interest in royal personalities came from. I began studying and following royal families - those in the bible and those who weren’t. I observed how these personalities put so much emphasis on showcasing elegance and confidence through their personal style and fashion.

Although many monarchs have specific fashion codes and specifications, Princess Diana was able to masterfully integrate her personal style into her fashion. Whether she was wearing a strapless blue Catherine Walker dress or dressed in her 1994 ‘revenge’ dress (off-the-shoulder black dress designed by Christina Stambolian), she was always a picture of elegance, grace, and confidence.

In this month’s pictures, I am dressed in a white long sleeve V-neck dress by Zara. The dress’ length and v-neck makes it such a great look for the springtime. The V-neckline slims your neck, slightly reduces the curved shape of your breasts and widens the shoulders in a way that exudes confidence. Frankly, the v-neck makes the dress. The front slit on the dress highlights its modest yet daring look. My favourite part is how the dress opens up freely at the bottom because this allows for unconstrained movements as you walk, sit or dance around.

Much like Princess Diana, this dress is a picture of elegance, grace, and confidence. It may not be what is stereotypically expected to be a royal-inspired look but that is what is great about it. With a dress like this, I can combine my personal style with the themes and specifications of royal households.  We all have our personal styles. Whatever we do, let’s not shy away from them. Instead, we should embrace them and integrate them into our daily looks whenever we can. Our personal styles make us unique and improve our self-confidence.
