Women Together

Our personal choices make up our identity - and instead of using it as a basis for disagreements - we should be embracing our individual differences and identity.

Female relationships are special. The bond between mother and daughter, sisters, or female friends are like none other. American comedian, Margaret Cho, said it best. She said females “ have a really intense, close relationship with each other.” - and I agree. Female relationships can be undulating  - one moment, we can be best friends, and the next, we may not want to have anything to do with each other - but still, our relationships are special.

When I was younger, my mom and I used to disagree on my clothing choices. She wasn’t a big fan of my shorter outfits. Whenever I wore these outfits for an event, we would have really intense - and sometimes emotional - conversations about it. Once the conversations and arguments were over, we would get back to happier dialogues and laugh together. This is an example of how a female relationship can swing through a spectrum of emotions within moments.

Around the world, many women have disagreements with each other. Many at times, these disagreements are rooted in personal preferences, choices, and styles. The irony is, as women, our individual differences make us unique. Our personal choices make up our identity - and instead of using it as a basis for disagreements - we should be embracing our individual differences and identity.

The look has a modern and chic feel to it. As you can see I paired the cord set with a white sleeveless tee. Together, they can be worn on a beautiful summer day but if the night gets colder, I can wear the skirt and the tee coupled with a jacket.  The mini skirt is a fashion trend that has existed for decades - and seems to always be in season. The trend broke out in the 1960s as a new fashion expression that defined the movements of women liberation and independence of that era.  It quickly became a symbol of female power, independence, and poise.

Fashion is one of many ways women choose to express themselves. Our identity and differences can be expressed by our outfit choices. The clothing materials we pair together and our personal styles make us beautiful. When we embrace our identity and style, we feel stronger and confident. This confidence is essential to building powerful relationships amongst ourselves that can lead to monumental movements in our communities.

Female relationships are special. We have so much power amongst us and must continue to learn how to wield it. To do this, we must start by understanding our personal identity, accepting ourselves for who we are, and expressing our identity in ways that we are comfortable with. Then, we must embrace our fellow women and their identities and expressions. When we do this, we will understand each other better and grow together.
