4 Practical Steps to Planning your Outfit

Getting ready for an event can become a chore when you have to answer the question, 'What do I wear?'

One of the most common complaints among people I work with is that they have closets full of outfits and must decide what to wear. They waste a lot of time deciding on the most suitable outfit and spend lots of money buying new clothes for all their outings. If this sounds familiar, then today's blog is just for you.

I will share a few considerations that have helped me and can help you ease the dressing process.

  1. What’s the event about?

It’s essential to have an understanding of what type of event you are planning to attend. This will help you to prepare and choose the right clothing items. A few questions to keep in mind when planning your outfits are;

  • What is the event about? Is it for networking, a work conference, a church event, etc?

  • What is the theme of the event? Will it require lots of running around?

  • Do you want to be casual or formal for this event?

2. Check the weather forecast.

Living in a country with four weather changes, it is imperative to check the weather to avoid surprises. Checking the weather forecast helps me stay stylish since I can dress appropriately. Consider the weather forecast when selecting your clothes.

3. Start with the basics.

Once you know what the day will look like based on the kind of event and weather expectations, it's good to identify the most straightforward and basic wardrobe essentials you have. Go for ideas that come naturally to you and avoid the thought of looking a certain way. Starting with the basics can be as simple as thinking of the outfits that make you feel comfortable.

4. Visualize the day ahead.

Once you know what makes you feel comfortable, you can elevate your look by thinking about shoes and accessories. Before finalizing the complete look, having a mental picture of what the day will be like is essential.

  • Am I going to move around a lot or sit in one place?

  • Do I have other errands I'd like to run during my day?

Thinking about questions like this will help you decide whether a big or small bag should be carried. It will also help you determine if you need an extra pair of shoes or just need to wear flat shoes.

Whatever makes planning your outfit seem less like a chore should always be your goal. The following are the benefits of adhering to the tips above;

  • It saves you time, especially when you are in a hurry or need to improve at keeping to time. Taking one activity from your to-do list helps you get ready faster.

  • It helps you identify what clothing items your wardrobe is missing and what pieces are needed.

  • It helps you wear your clothes again in multiple ways instead of shopping for new clothes every time.

  • It helps you understand what clothing items you like.

The last thing you want to do is go to an important event, feeling the discomfort you can control. Just as we plan for other things in our lives, it’s also essential to prepare our clothes.

You can use these tips on an event-to-event basis or apply weekly.
