Beyond the Hourglass Body Shape: Celebrating Women's Bodies in Diverse Shapes and Sizes

The media has over-glamorized the hourglass body shape, which has led to the idea of it being the perfect or ideal body shape. Trust me, and I get it. This body shape has all its curves in a balanced proportion. However, we can’t all be one body type because we have all been created uniquely.

The idea of body shape or type goes back to the biology of the body because the human body shape is simply the bone structure accompanied by fit or size. It is primarily defined by the skeletal frame of an individual. This understanding makes it hard to box all women into one ideal body type because it’s simply not realistic.

Clothes are not designed to fit only one body type. Ideally, every designer should pay attention to the fact that women have different shapes and sizes. We have stores that cater to certain sizes. However, there is a rise in more clothing options these days, shedding light on the diversity of the woman's body.

In the same way, we can’t all be the same in shape and size in the same way we can’t all wear the same clothes. Therefore, what looks good on one body type or shape can’t be used to determine what the standard is across boards. It can’t be used to determine which clothes are good-looking or not.

Since we can’t all be the same, it is necessary to understand what your body is like and the features that you possess. Having this knowledge certainly helps to identify what clothing items will look good on you and know what to focus on when choosing your outfits.

The beauty of embracing our body type is that it highlights how beautiful we are as women. It sheds light on different aspects of the woman’s body that one type of body shape can’t portray.

You and I are wonderfully and fearfully made, and all the features on our bodies have been put together to highlight that. So instead of focusing on what you don’t have control of, which is changing how your body should look, you can focus on what makes you look good and highlights your body shape well.
