A Practical Guide To Investing In Your Wardrobe

When I think of my past shopping habits, one of the few mistakes I  made was buying items I could only wear once. Countless times, I would purchase many beautiful pieces and then discard them because they no longer fit my wardrobe. I was always shopping for something new, especially when I had an event or outing.

In my blog today, I will share a rule I learned that helped me stop making this terrible, rather expensive mistake. The practice is simple, "Invest in quality items that fit your wardrobe in the long run and not for a short time." When I had to pick an outfit for any upcoming event, I learned to purchase pieces I would proudly wear on more than one occasion.

A practical example of how I have used this rule is with the restyling of a dress I wore a few years ago during my maternity shoot. Below are three new looks I have curated with that dress, but for other occasions ;

1. Summer Girl -  To achieve this look, I paired the dress with a plain white tee, the more modest option. It’s easy to say NO to this dress because the back is very revealing; however, it's a beautiful piece when paired with a tee or blazer and then accessorized with a belt. When you have wardrobe essentials like a plain tee and a blazer are emphasized since they ease the dressing process. The entire Summer Girl look is perfect for women who like modest fashion.

2. Beach & Chill - I paired the dress with a sun hat and slippers for this look. The free-flowing dress allows room for skin and legs to show and any beach outfit. This style is suitable for a beach or tropical location.

3. Date Night - I elevated the dress by wearing sandal heels while carrying my purse. You can accessorize the dress with bracelets. It’s perfect for date night or a night out with friends in the summer weather.

I have shown you that anybody can wear an outfit more than once and still look fashionable. If I had given out the dress or thrown it away for the temporary pleasure of emptying my wardrobe for something new, I would never have gotten my money's worth but invested in more clothing to get what one dress could offer.

Please note that some events require specific outfits, and even minimal compromise can not be made; however, when you can be flexible, I highly recommend you shop with a long-term mindset for your wardrobe. It’s always more important to choose quality over quantity.
