If you read fashion blogs a lot, you may have come across this statement: “You don’t have to spend a lot of money on clothes to look luxurious.”

Chances are when you read that, you think to yourself, “well, how do I look luxurious on a budget?”

I’ve got a tip for you:  invest in elevated basics.

Elevated basics are essential wardrobe staples that enhance the value of your closet. They are fundamental pieces that add important details that elevate your overall appearance.

In this article, I’ll be sharing three major aspects of a wardrobe and the type of elevated basics you can invest in for each area.

Staple Tops

  • Graphic Tees: Graphic tee is a versatile staple in your wardrobe because it can be dressed up by pairing it with a blazer or later with colours. When choosing a tee, opt for graphic tees instead of the regular plain white or black tee. They make styling less complicated because they pair well with various clothing pieces.

  • Bodysuit: Bodysuit is a wardrobe staple that provides comfort and makes getting dressed easy. It is a versatile piece that can be used endlessly. When choosing a bodysuit, opt for bodysuits with necklines such as v-neck, sweetheart, turtleneck, halter neck, off-shoulder, and one-shoulder instead of the regular crew neckline. However, remember to choose a neckline that fits your body shape well.

  • Button Shirt: Button shirt comes in every colour, pattern and cut, with short, half or full sleeves. It can be paired with various clothing pieces and worn in different ways. When choosing a button shirt, opt for an oversized button shirt, or patterned button shirt instead of a regular fit button shirt.  If you are looking to add more details, you can go for button shirts with more details on sleeves or fabric.

Staple Bottoms

  • Denim: Denim is a type of cotton that is spun into yarn and dyed. It is usually dyed blue and comes in a variety of fits, especially denim jeans. They come in wide-leg, straight, and slim-fit options. When choosing denim jeans opt for colours like white, and, black instead of the regular blue jeans. Denim jeans in colour are statement pieces, which elevate a look effortlessly. It makes styling easy and can be dressed up or down with pieces you already have. Another great twist to denim is the trending denim skirts.

Staple outerwear

  • Denim Jacket: Denim jacket is a wardrobe staple that works year-round. It is functional because it keeps you warm and can give you for an elevated casual look. Instead of the plain denim jacket, choose a denim jacket that has a cropped or oversized fit, embellishments or added details to the style of the jacket.

  • Trench Coat - A trench coat is a practical clothing piece because it is lightweight and waterproof. It is a stylish versatile piece that can transition perfectly from smart to casual dressing. When choosing a trench coat, choose a coat that has prints and is in a colour like green, pink, or leather fabric.

  • Leather Jacket: The leather jacket is a timeless wardrobe staple that will last for years if gotten in good quality. It’s one of the few items I highly recommend splurging on because it lasts. When getting a leather jacket, instead of the basic biker jacket you can opt for the bomber, blazer, and aviator style. You can also go for the jacket in colour instead of the regular black colour.

The items highlighted are all basic items needed In every wardrobe. However, having these pieces in an elevated form makes you have a functional, and versatile wardrobe. These pieces might be simple in terms of style but what makes them elevated is the details on them.

Details like pocket, stitching, bold colours, fabric design and cut on a clothing piece all add up to make a difference. They make a difference because styling is about mixing and matching your clothing pieces and accessories to create a stunning look.
