Look Book: A Fall and Winter Fashion Staple

Everyone needs to have fashion staples in their wardrobe — these are those clothing pieces that you just can’t do without. Fashion staples are essential because they tend to complement other items in your wardrobe. For example, your black pair of pants are suited for just about every weather and event. For me, my trench coat is a fashion staple.

On a winter Sunday afternoon, I got dressed for a church service in a pencil skirt, blouse, heel, and a winter jacket four years ago. When I arrived, I slipped and fell on the snow while walking towards the church’s doors. Before I knew it, I was on the icy ground and rolling towards a parked car. Thankfully, other than my sore limps and bruised ego, there were no long-lasting injuries from that event.

However, my fall taught me an important lesson: regardless of your seasonal fashion choices, there are clothing items that you just need to have. I realized I needed to invest in comfortable but stylish winter wear that was stylish and comfortable. I shouldn’t have worn a pencil skirt and sandals heel on a snowy day and icy ground. After that incident, I made up my mind to have vital pieces in my wardrobe that I could wear in any season.

In this look-book, I am wearing a trench coat from NA-KD with ankle boots from Aldo. A trench coat, in the cold season, is a fashion staple. It is a very essential and versatile clothing item for the fall and winter months. I love how chic this particular trench coat is, starting from the fabric’s feel down to the length, the button front, side slits and the buckled belt at the waist. I love that I can look classy, feel warm and comfortable while wearing this coat.

The clothes you wear must help you feel comfortable and confident in any setting. This trench coat gives me a sense of comfort that makes it convenient for me to wear it anywhere. Moreover, if I need to, I can always take it off when I’m indoors or leave it on if I want to. My Aldo shoes have been a repeat item for me throughout the fall/winter season. After my fall, I bought this pair of shoes so that I don’t have to worry about slipping on snow.

Beneath the trench coat is a short vest dress, but you can also wear this coat with a pair of pants. You can choose to leave the coat unbuttoned or button it up — whichever works better for you. Given the coat’s length and the weather, it may be challenging to pull off wearing a skirt underneath it. As always, whatever you do, make sure you feel comfortable and confident with your pairing.
