The Beauty of the Season

Life happens in seasons, and each season comes with its own conditions and realities. Ralph Waldon Emerson said it best,  “Each moment of the year has its own beauty.”

Noah was a blameless man in such an evil world. God gave him a heads up about a catastrophic rainfall and told Noah to prepare for the flood by building an ark. The flood came, and he, his family, and a pair of each animal were saved. When the rainfall was over, and the ground began to dry, Noah sent out a bird to survey to land before he and his family stepped out of the ark.

Noah spent 150 days in the ark — away from everything he has known and was used to. Like many of us this year, Noah and his family were on lockdown for a considerable amount of time. Yet, when it was rain ceased, he didn’t rush out of the ark. He took his time to assess the new season that he was in before taking his next step.

As he moved from one season to the other, Noah was patient and thoughtful about his decisions. He was attentive to God’s words and instructions and diligently built the ark according to God’s blueprint. Noah stepped into the ark despite all the criticism he received. He stayed in the ark for as long as he needed to be in it. He studied and did his due diligence before stepping out of the ark.

Noah understood that each season is different and approached them with a sense of duty. He didn’t expect the next season to be precisely the same as the former. Instead, he adapted and obeyed God as he went from season to season. In the end, his obedience, diligence and patience paid off. He survived the worst natural disaster in human history and saved his family and animals’ lives.

How much different would our lives be if we approach each season as Noah did? What would happen if we paid closer attention to God’s words, obeyed them, and exercised a little more patience? What if we were more diligent in our duties?

Through different seasons, Noah’s story was written, and his life was changed. His legacy and contribution to humanity were solidified in those moments when he chose to be obedient, patient and diligent. Like Noah, you will experience different seasons in life. The question is, how will you go about those seasons?

Seasons are defined in moments. Be thoughtful about how you’re spending each moment, and as you do, the gift and beauty of the season you’re in will be revealed to you.
